Car lockout help in Nampa, day or night

A car lockout is usually the lightest of the key jobs: the key exists and works, it is just out of reach. We come to where the car is parked in Nampa, Kuna, Middleton or anywhere in Canyon and Ada counties and open the door or trunk. This car unlock service answers 24/7, holidays included.

With a child or a pet locked inside, call 911 first, above all in summer heat or on a bitterly cold day. Then call us: a child or pet in the car goes to the top of our list.

Which part of your key is the problem?

Think of the three parts of a car key, and you can usually tell what kind of lockout this is.

  • The remote. Fob in your hand, doors ignoring it? That is usually a flat fob battery rather than a lockout, and a smart key that has died completely may need a replacement smart key.
  • The blade. Most smart keys hide a slim emergency blade inside, and on many cars the matching keyhole hides beneath a little cover on the driver's door handle. That blade opens the door with no battery at all. If a blade snapped off in the lock instead, the stuck piece comes out first.
  • The chip. It plays no part in getting in; it only matters at the ignition. If the keys are gone altogether, the job becomes a new key, chip included.

Locked keys in car? Before you call

Walk around the car once and try each handle, the tailgate or trunk lid included. If there is a spare, weigh how long it would take to reach you. And leave the coat hanger and any wire tool you saw online in the closet; the next section explains why.

Why a coat hanger is a poor bet on a newer door

Inside the door, the lock button reaches the latch through thin rods held by plastic clips, next to wiring for the power locks and windows. A strip or hanger pushed blindly past the glass can pop a clip or bend a rod, and then the door may lock normally yet refuse to open.

We open it with methods chosen to avoid damage, matched to the make and the door in front of us. That is one reason the call starts with the year, make and model.

Trunk lockouts on sedans, SUVs and hatchbacks

On an SUV, a minivan or a hatchback, the cargo area is part of the cabin, so a door that opens usually puts the keys within reach. A sedan's trunk is walled off from the seats, which can add a step. Either way, the trunk lockout is handled at the car, with the same care as a door.

What we ask on the call

  • What kind of key is inside: one you turn, one with buttons, or a smart key for a push-button start
  • Whether a second key exists, and where it is
  • Whether the doors, the trunk or both are locked
  • The vehicle, plus an address or a landmark we can find

Vehicles only, across the valley

We work on vehicles only, so a locked house or office is outside what we do. Locked out of your car away from Nampa? We also handle lockouts in Caldwell, Meridian and the rest of the valley.

What happens at your car

  1. Where, and which key

Give us the location, the vehicle and the kind of key locked inside. The price, and when we can be there, come on that same call.

  2. Ownership first

Before the car is opened, your photo ID is matched with the registration or title.

  3. Door or trunk opened

The car is opened with tools and methods chosen to avoid damage, suited to that make and door; never a pry bar.

  4. Anything else, same visit

If a key turns out to be missing or broken once the car is open, it can be replaced before we leave.

FAQ

Questions about this

Does anything need programming after a lockout?

No. With the keys inside, the chip and remote you already have keep working, so opening the car is the whole job; a new key only comes into it when one is missing or damaged.

The hidden blade from my smart key won't turn the door lock. What now?

That keyhole may have gone years without use, so it can be stiff, or iced over in winter. Turn gently and don't lever on the slim blade; if the lock still won't move, call and we open the car instead.

My registration is locked inside with the keys. Is that a problem?

It can be, so make it one of the first things you tell us, together with whatever ID you have on you. We then explain what proof of ownership we need, before anyone drives out.

Can someone else call for me?

Yes, anyone can make the call. Opening the car still waits for a photo ID matched with the registration or title, so tell us whose name the car is in and we explain what is needed.
